A little more is expected at home, at troop meetings, and in your community. Strive always to be worthy of the symbols you wear and wear them with pride”. Congratulations! Tonight we will be advancing some of the girls of our Troop. We will start with the Brownies flying up to Junior Girl Scouts and then bridging the Daisys to Brownies. *All Girls Sing Twinkle Twinkle Little Star.* Fly up to the Stars - Junior introductions - Mary Sestokas *FLY UP IN THE STARS* Once when the world was in its loveliest spring attire, a troop of Brownie Girl Scouts were gazing at the evening sky. As the stars lit up the heavenly design, the Brownies began to sing a song about the night sky. Their voices, as if by magic, were carried afar, for the moon smiled a lopsided grin and the stars twinkled lovingly. Indeed, they looked like diamonds, and as the Brownies watched, they were convinced the stars were beckoning for them to come and visit. Since Brownies love invitations, they virtually flew to the edge of the sky and went up along the Milky Way. On the pathway, they saw Queen Cassiopeia on her dazzling throne. She was gracious and friendly, but warned the Brownies about the fiery dragon, Draco, roaming the sky. She invited the thirsty little girls to have a drink of cool milk from the Milky Way. You have probably guessed they drank from both the Big and Little Dippers. Cassiopeia then introduced the Brownies to the seven sisters, The Pleiades family. (There are really many more than seven of them). That cluster of girls from the heavens was delighted to meet the cluster of girls from Earth. The Pleiades girls wanted to give each Brownie a little keepsake– something to bring to mind the big occasion of their getting to know each other. The star sisters gave their dearest possession: they put a twinkle in each of the girls’ eyes. The Brownies at first were embarrassed for they had brought no gifts. Then all at once they thought of a gift they could give. They delved into their pockets and gave the sisters their very own Brownie smiles. *All girls Sing I have something in my Pocket* Queen Cassiopeia was happy, too. She turned to the Brownies, thanked them for coming and told them they must leave now. As they stood at the crossroads of the sky (the Northern Cross that is) the Queen looked at them fondly and said, “Since you have been so generous and have given away your Brownie smiles to the Pleiades sisters, you can no longer be Brownie GS. There just isn’t a Brownie without a Brownie smile. Form now on you are Junior Girl Scouts with a twinkle in your eyes!” Joyfully, the new Junior GS flew home. When they looked back for the last time at the end of the Milky Way they could still see Queen Cassiopeia, shining in the sky. After Troop 1499 had flown back to Earth, the girls in that troop could look into the sky on clear nights and see Brownie smiles. The GS could look on their badge sashes/vests and see the wings they used that night when they flew up. And anyone in the world can look into the eyes of the girls in that troop and see the twinkle that was given to them on the night they became Junior Girl Scouts. *(excerpted from GS Leader Magazine, May 1962)* L: The time has now come for you to take wings and fly-up to Junior GS. Since you have been a registered Brownie GS, you are en_title_d to wear the Brownie wings on your Jr sash. L: Please share what have you learned as a Brownie Girl Scout? Scout: Reply (Mary) - L: Brownies, you are just about - To become a Junior Scout. - Next year you will find - that Junior Scouts are true and kind. - So now I give you Brownie Wings - so you may fly to bigger things. As we have one Brownie fly up we will have six Daisys to bridge. The Daisy Scouts that are bridging tonight are: Ø Anna Toney Ø Caitlin Sadosky Ø Elizabeth Trenary Ø Emma Tomco Ø Jessica Opria Ø Mia Auzina L: As we prepared for tonight’s ceremony and the next two years of Girl Scouting, the girls learned how Brownies came to be. L: Brownie Story L2: Grandma: (speaking to children) Oh, me, Oh, my. I've worked so hard to clean this house all day I think that you should help a bit, but all you do is play. L3: Father: I've chopped the wood and swept the walk the cows and pigs are fed, my poor old back is aching and my legs feel like they're dead! L2: Grandma: Some folks I know had all the luck a brownie used to come and wash the dishes, sweep the floor and pick up every crumb. L3: Father: I wish we had a brownie so that we could rest a bit. Where could we find one? OH
